School Requirements
Parents
of students entering the Hernando County public school system
for the first time may register their children at the schools
they will attend. To find out what school your child should
attend, call 797-7003. To register, students need the following
items:
A birth
certificate for pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and first-grade
students new to Florida who did not attend a kindergarten
program in another state. A hospital record is not acceptable.
Proof that a
physical examination has been performed within the past 12
months. The Hernando County Health Department performs physicals
at its Brooksville and Spring Hill locations. Call 754-4067 for
Brooksville and 688-5067 for Spring Hill.
Proof of
residency, which can be a copy of your most recent utility bill.
Up-to-date
immunizations for all new students as follows:
GRADES K-2 --
Measles vaccine (second dose, preferably MMR); hepatitis B
series (three doses over a six-month period); DTP (total of four
or five doses required); polio (total of three or four doses
required). Prekindergarten, kindergarten and first-grade
students must have the varicella vaccine or documentation of
chicken pox.

required). Sixth-graders must have begun the hepatitis B series
by October.
GRADES 7-11
-- Tetanus-diphtheria (TD) booster; measles vaccine (second
dose, preferably MMR); hepatitis B series (three doses given
over a six-month period).
All immunization
dates must be on the Florida Certificate of Immunization (DH
680). For immunization information, contact your private
physician or the Hernando County Health Department.
